Babe Shadow - awesome band lead singer amaze!!

Babe Shadow is their name and I remember going to see them at a dingy little club in East London on their second ever gig a while ago. I found them on myspace and fell in love with their songs, the simplicity, lyrically, melodically, musically just everything and the lead singers voice is utterly 'Stunning' its only right that i start by showing you some of his work as he writes all their material. He has great stage presence and when performing the slow down tempo songs, even better. His name is TOM CAWTE and for me what drew me to 'Babe Shadow' in the first place was that they had classic music material. I feel in this industry at the moment a lot of new bands are Style over substance and Babe Shadow are not that. I love what they are doing and see honestly see them doing live gigs on a global scale and being Big.

You have to check out this song called THE PIANO SONG. Its simple and classic, I think the industry needs another classic song that resembles John Lennon 'Imagine' this has a similar vibe, listen to the chords, lyrics its just magic and this is just in the rough stages. Its Magic.

Let me Introduce you to NOISYFRED a new 19 year old producer who is a massive talent!!

Right ok i know my last few blog entries been all music based, mainly consisting of producers new artists etc.. so for those of you who read this not into music or in the 'Industry' then please read anyway as all these talents are very exiting to me....

This is a young producer from Up North who i called FREDSTERR.. i was lucky to meet him at a management company i used to work for, where another artist there brought him into camp. In the short while i knew Fred, it was a complete blessing!! all i can say he is going to go very very far, reminds me of a young Ryan Tedder..

Just to break it down, Fred started his own business when 16 from his bedroom in the Midlands he was at school/college whilst working since the age of 14 to save up enough pennies to fund his music career. He built a studio himself in his bedroom and by the time he was 16 had his business, booking in clients to work with him and also involved in several other music projects such as a new Indie/Pop band.
So to cut a long story short, 4 years later he is now living up in London and has songs with Bluey Robinson, Hygrade, Tre Jean Marie amongst other up and coming stars. He also is a session musician and is often seen playing for other artists on the London gig circuit.
Most recently he has worked on a super cool project for the BBC where he was part of producing and writing the songs with Arts19 Music. Its for a new special musical film to air on BBC 2 in Jan follows the lives of singers/actors etc.. almost like a UK Glee but less cheesy and just a one of film.
Also working with a great new rapper called RUBY RAYNE where they both have started a label together. Please see below

NOISY FRED is the next new producer to come up in the game in the UK trust me.. he sleeps, eats and is in his studio 24/7 in fact I'm not sure he even gets to sleep much lol..

But it will all be worth it for him, he is going to be BIG!! he is a great producer and a even more gifted songwriter with the ability to write really strong catchy hooks!! when i worked with him, i used to walk around singing his songs all the damm time even on the bus home.

He is a fab person as well who is very sincere, decant hardworking and down to earth and I know he will stay that way. His passion for what he does its like some one who is always exited and on a hype, smily happy all the time..

New Girl Group - 'Sound Girl' young, fresh and love their sound

A friend of mine who works for Mercury there label introduced me to these girls a little while ago. There debut song/video went up online a little while ago and have to say am liking their over all sound, look, vocals and just their whole vibe. They are young as well, i think 15, 16 and 17 which is great as they could be around for a long time. I feel the UK needs a new non cheesy girl group that are extremely current and think these girls are just that!! Their A&R is the same as Pixie Lott who i personally respect his work, and they are currently supporting her on tour.

Chad Beatz - Multi Platinum Producer from the states

Chad Beatz is a multi platinum producer from the states Miami to be exact. I had the pleasure of meeting him about 2 years ago now, where we worked together @Upper11 Records where he was brought over to produce for a rapper called Kaliba also from Miami. From the moment I met Chad we clicked instantly and was on the same page musically and creatively he was also a year older than me so similar with age.

Just so you know CHAD BEATZ for those of you that don't know is Musical Beast his production is just too good!! Like seriously good!! I have been blessed to be in the studio with him on many occasions and he just on FIRE every time.. and in true USA style is full of energy, he gets the best out of every artists, comes up with lyrics easily he a concept writer and digs into every song like he living it right in that moment. He plays every instrument, raps, sings and is just a whole heap of talent. If you don't know about him i would suggest you need to right now... Oh and he also used to be part of GUnit camp and work with Ryan Leslie back in the day.

Lego The Future - 18 year old rapper from NYC Dope!!

Ok so found this dope rapper on youtube about a year and half ago just free styling in a school in NYC his home town, since then i stalked him for a while (you gotta be persistent in this game) to find out more. He didn't even have a myspace or anything. He was all fresh and new. So anyway to cut a long story since, i have been fully excuse the slang but 'REPPING HIM HARD' lol!! In other words i fully belief in him as a artist and trying to help him get to where he wants to be. He can be the next new rapper that is by far credible to come from the states.
So when the 'Industry' asks you 'Jem what's his USP which is Unique Selling Point?' well here goes he has many and more to come -

1. He is just about to turn 19 still young so massive room for development and growth
2. He produces all his own material
3. He graphic designs and does all his own web design himself
4. He studies law in the city = very intelligent
5. His Dad is a local hip-hop producer and now they own a studio together in Staten Island NYC
6. He sings as well and writes all his own lyrics
7. His flow is just unique
8. He sounds a little like Asher Roth/Fabulous/Lupe/Drake - these all highly respected Rappers
9. His lyrics are just too good, coming with punch lines quick, using metaphors and subtextual lyrics well. His lyrics are emotional yet relatable
10. He is super cute and has a massive fan base of girls. Oh yeah and comes from the Puerto Rican surburbs of Brooklyn, NYC.

Cold Play - Fix You

Ok so whilst out on a walk before in the snowy fields of Hampshire (The Jane Austin County), near where i live. Well actually at the end of Fuzzy Drove which is a wooded long path that leads to the fields next to my house in a nice little cul-de-sac its all very cute.

I took a long walk I was feeling rather 'Free' in the fields by myself, few other walkers and their dogs which i am scared of lol. I took a moment to reflect on life and things around me, and for a moment I felt like I was in a music video or living in a winter dream. This song came into my head and its just pure amazing!! Chris Martins voice, the meaningful lyrics, the build up to the hook, its just perfect.. its 'Emotional Music' and i had to blog it. I know i know is prob rather depressing given the circumstances of the weather, getting dark very early, being skint this close to xmas blah blah blah.. but on the positive the song is just BEAUTIFUL!!
Oh yeh at the bottom you will see the fields near where i live and also my deformed snowman i attempted to build all my myself in my garden, lol!!

Yasmin - DJ/Singer/Songwriter and Just 21 years old

I met Yasmin a long time ago where we got introduced through a mutual industry friend, at the time she was living in Scotland and would DJ here and there at different London Clubs mainly within the West End circuit. Remember back then she had a huge passion for music and was very determined to do well in Music. We lost contact for a while but now 2 and a half years later, she is DJ'ing for some of the biggest names in the music industry from NERD, TIAO CRUZ to EVE and playing the big music festivals. She is now a singer/songwriter and featured on Devlin's last single 'Runaway' where she wrote and sang the hook. Now she is gearing up for the release of her first debut solo single through Ministry of sound recordings and its called 'ON MY OWN'. Its produced by the legends Shy Fx, it has a real old skool 90's Trip hop feel to it. Yasmin wrote the song and lyrically i think its great. She sings about her journey so far in music which most budding artists or generally as individuals we can relate to. The name of the song says it all 'On my own' is something as individuals we all experience in the struggle to find our selfs or mainly people within this industry to create their own journey and make a name for themselves. I think Yasmin has a really nice tone and a rather unique raspy soothing voice.  I have a feeling that this girl is going to be BIG in 2011 and has a great future ahead of her. She has worked hard to get where she is, and is a fab new talent part of the new young generation of artists coming through right now.

San Francisco - when I shall retire I shall live there...

Since watching the film one of my favs 'The Sweetest Thing' with Cameron Diaz.. its made me fall in love with San Francisco even more. Its got everything well in pictures and in films anyway.
 Its cute, love the houses and the designs, the famous Golden Gate Bridge, Chinatown, Downtown where all the clubs are and restaurants/shops, a bit of culture with the City Hall, the trams, the palace of arts, the dancing, the street parades, the lay out, the hills, the greenery, its just so pretty... I love it..

Labrinth - The Future Of Music

LABZ aka LABRINTH is the Future of Music, the UK's Kanye West.. this guy is a absolute Musical Genius!! Also a great person who is a extrovert character..

• I met Labrinth whilst on my first A&R scouting trip to Yo Yos, Notting Hill Arts Club about 3 years ago where I was scouting the rapper ‘Mastershortie’ after the gig I asked Mastershortie who is your producer? He is damm good, he introduced me to Labz…

• Used to go to Labz studio when he first started to work with Bluey Robinson (now signed to RCA), was literally blown away by Labz and his talent, his ability to not just produce Urban, but classical, pop/soul everything. Seriously is there anything the guy cant do…

• Once he played me the track ‘Music box’ wow!! Lyrically, musically, his vocals it was just magical. After hearing this track one late night I rushed to my old labels studio in South London where DJ LES (Nas/Jay Z) and CHAD BEATZ (Travie Mckoy/Rhianna) were working on some hip-hop material for the label and a rapper we had from Miami. I remember playing them all Labrinths material and MUSIC BOX first about 1am in the morning and we were all going crazy!! That was exiting for me.

• I eventually got Labrinth on board with the label to do a track with the pop artist on the label called NATALIA they co wrote a great pop/soul track together called ‘Wishing Well’ think Solange ‘Sandcastle’ disco similar feel. This track the label president was feeling as were all our radio plungers, we all deiced that it had to be a single for her States release. This was all exiting then the credit crunch hit, and the label were running low on money so in the end unfortunately we couldn’t use the track. Hope the track now is going to good use as its damm good!! That was tough for me, as Labz was a friend as well as was doing business with which some times you can’t mix with, especially when the circumstances are not your fault around you. I just wanted to do my best in where I was and help get the artist the best records possible.

• Labz and I remained friends; we went to Ireland together for a week on a music trip with his friend Irish rapper Deablo whom Labz was working with at the time. It was for a new TV show called ‘Live at the limelite’ with new Irish talent. It was a truly great experience and was aired on Irish TV couple of months after. Even then remember staying with Labz and his brother and he would just create music and play music every day, even real late at night. He has a great work ethic and was all he lived and breathed.

• 2 years later Labz secures a publishing deal with EMI has his first number 1! Then later signs to SYCO records Simon Cowels first ever signing not from xfactor wow!! So happy for him, as rememeber Labz saying he wants to create something different fro the UK market, work with artists that are part of the young new generation and be a artist eventually himself one day. And yeh at the age of 21 he has done it, and is set to do a lot more too. Most UK producers have the tendency to just try there luck in America and work with artists over there as the market obviously a lot bigger but not Labz he always said he wanted to make his mark here first and build up clear foundations. 

I feel very blessed to have witnessed Labz in the studio and see his work, and also see him grow as a producer and now artist from the beginning. He is going to be HUGE!!

Creative Friends - Emil Nava Vid Director

Now where do I start with Emil well he is my age 25, a shit hot new video director and a  passionate creative guy who loves cats his friends/going out/women and he is just a big time fun character who touches every one with his charm and character.

I met Emil about 4 years ago now when I first moved to London, I was working for Upper11 records and he was Assisting Directing on a video for one of our artists called Natalia, he was working along side the Phil Griffin (big vid director in the game). Remember Emil on the shoot, he was very enthusiastic, energetic and good at his job. I then met him again at a Beyonce party where he arrived with his brother also a video director Jake Nava. We kept in contact ever since and he has a become a good friend. I have seen Emil grow from just being a runner to assistant director to now being one of the UK’s biggest new young video directors. He has directed most of Tinchy Striders videos, Ndubz, and is really at the fore front of the UK urban/pop scene. He most recently won a Soho film festival award for best new music video director for his video for Kid British and a big look was recently scoring the new video for super star artist JessieJ ‘Do it like a dude’. He has done so much in the last year and next year is going to be even bigger for him i just know it.  I am rather proud of him and his work ethic is on point.

I really like this video, as love the narrative and it’s almost like a scene out of a movie. I think the cast/location is on point, fan of the group and love the song. Like the shoots, lighting and the capturing of these characters that if you look closely could be similar to people we may know or can relate to.

Creative Friends - Sylvie Louise Gianella

So each month am going to dedicate some time to showing love to friends who are extremely creative and have a talent that needs biggin up. My first one is a fantastic new photographer Sylvie who is originally from Bournemouth and moved to London around 2 years ago. Sylvie has a passion for fashion the arts and is a fab photographer. People call her snappy happy, she is always seen with a camera on nights out and is always the first to post creative albums up on facebook a week or so after. It’s just her and her iphone or her cannons camera and her great sense of capturing a great moment whether it’s in a gritty rave at a Techno night in East London to a early morning sunset on a beach in Ibiza. Sylvie is currently working in the Topshop flag ship store in Oxford Street as the key visual merchandiser with a love for fashion and selling the visuals in the best possible way.
